The Kapamilya series was the overall number one show on Friday, August 12, for the first time since ABS-CBN’s shutdown.

FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano ended its seven years on air, as the number one TV show in the country on Friday, August 12, the day it aired its finale episode. It was the first time that the series took the top spot since ABS-CBN lost its franchise in May 2020, resulting in its departure from TV competition.

The action drama series not only won its time slot against its rival Kapuso show, Lolong, but it also surged ahead of 24 Oras, which has been the number one program for the longest time. According to AGB Nielsen’s National urban TV Measurement (NUTAM) ratings, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano bested all other programs qith a 16.6% people rating, higher than Lolong’s 14.8%. Airing for nearly 2 hours, the Kapamilya series also went head-to-head against Bolera. which posted a 10.4% people rating. 24 Oras is a closed second, with a 16.5% rating.

FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano made several milestones during its finale. For one, it marked the first time that a local TV drama was seen by more than half a million concurrent viewers. On YouTube, more than 536,000 watched the series via Kapamilya Online Live, while an additional 48,000 saw the series on Facebook.

The series also ended its run as the longest-running drama on Philippine television, having lasted for nearly seven years and aired 1,696 episodes overall.

The finale episode saw the decimation of nearly all Task Force Agila, with Cardo Dalisay  as the only living survivor of the group. It remains to be seen whether or not Cardo Dalisay will continue to a new series, but it is worth noting that the show has already left a legacy that succeeding series will surely have a hard time to duplicate.

The entire cast of the series is set to hold a Philippine and US tour this month and in September.
