Actress Jessy Mendiola has been candid about her struggles with self-confidence since announcing her pregnancy. During a recent Vlog post on YouTube, Mendiola discussed how she is still adjusting to the physical changes she is experiencing.
Mendiola and her husband Luis Manzano exchanged questions about their experiences as soon-to-be parents.
The actress admitted that there are mornings when she looks in the mirror and realizes she doesn’t recognize herself.
She continued by saying that she has no choice but to accept these changes.
Mendiola shared, “I don’t feel like myself anymore as in dati may abs ako, tapos naka swimsuit pa ako lagi, may mga bikini pictures pa ako. But of course when it comes to pregnancy, kailangan mo lang talagang tanggapin na may magbabago sa katawan mo and it’s not going to be the same anymore.”
Manzano on the other hand reminds his wife how beautiful she remains despite these changes.
The 29-year-old actress has spoken publicly about how, prior to becoming pregnant, her dimensions were extra small. She also opened up about her struggles with self-doubt.
“I really get insecure. People are saying kapag buntis ka dapat lagi kang masaya pero honestly mahirap sa akin tanggapin na talagang lalaki ako or iiba yung itsura ko,” she revealed.
Mendiola decided to address her bashers as well after ABS-CBN shared an art card about her.
“Sa mga nagcocomment ng nega, always remember may kanya kanya tayong pinagdadaanan. Kahit ano pa yan, respect other people’s feelings and situation. Don’t be so quick to invalidate other people’s emotions. Hindi na sana ako sasagot, but I have to clear lang din kasi ang daming nagtatag sakin with nasty comments. Peace and love to everyone,” she commented.
“This is what happens when news sites quote only a fraction of what you actually said. We end up getting bashed because what was quoted has been taken out of context,” she added.
She hopes ABS-CBN will be more careful next time they post because things can get taken out of context very quickly. She aired out, “Sana kapag magsusulat kayo or magpopost, yung buo sana. Para hindi kami ang nakakatanggap ng negativity from people na nababasa lang kung ano ang ilalagay niyo. Tapos kami din ang sasabihan na wag nalang patulan o magsalita, parang medyo unfair.”
The actress stressed that to some people this issue might be too shallow but for someone who struggles with insecurities due to body shaming, this becomes a “big deal”.
Mendiola concluded, “To all the expectant moms out there like me, remember… you have a growing HUMAN inside of you. It’s not easy, but it’s WORTH IT.”
