Interior Health announced yet another ER closure Saturday due to a physician shortage, saying patients needing care could visit Penticton Regional Hospital.

The pilot will operate out of the Road to Recovery Program at St. Paul's Hospital, and is being privately funded through a $500,000 gift from an anonymous donor.

"This year we're going to respond to over 70,000 incidents in the city of Vancouver alone," Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services Chief Karen Fry said Monday.

St. Paul's Hospital, which is operated by the Catholic organization Providence Health, refuses to offer MAiD due to faith-based objections.
